Upcoming Art Show

I will have a few pieces in the upcoming exhibit at the McGuffey Art Center!
The opening will be Friday, July 4th, 2014 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.
My work will be displayed alongside the work of the other incubator artists, on the second floor in the alcove near the elevator.

Please come out and support us if you can :) All are welcome...and there will be free food!

Moving Out and Moving In

So this weekend, I finally got my act together and moved into my new studio at the McGuffey!

I Have a Thing For Frogs, Too...

Carved bone frog with turquoise, ammolite and garnet. Also with fossilized shark's tooth and sterling silver dragonfly charm.

Lamp-work glass frog on lily pad with Japanese seed beads, garnets and freshwater pearl. 

Re-purposed polymer frog. With unpolished labradorite, covelite and vanadinite.

A couple of pieces set into bezels with fringe that incorporate the concept of lock and key.

An Interesting Idea

In terms of theatrics, masks, puppetry and the like, I thought this was an amazing concept.
It combines the craft of jewelry design, in this case specifically chainmaille, with the craft of mask making and creature design. I love it! I like the simplicity of the design in contrast to the impact of the character...

I Have a Thing for Owls....

Large beaded breastplate with carved bone owl cabochon. Stones used include labradorite, petrified wood, red creek jasper, flourite, garnet, lapis lazuli and carnelian. The owl was "aged" with oil paint.

Large polymer owl modeled from polymer clay to be used for another breastplate. The eyes are labradorite beads and the talons are citrine.

Gorgeous porcelain owl cabochon by Laura Mears.The piece is about 1 inch tall and was purchased for use in a future beading project.

Another owl necklace with  carved bone focal piece. Stones used in this include blue lace agate, freshwater pearl, red creek jasper and turquoise.

Utilizing a collage of components including clock inner-workings, vintage buttons, antique keys, filigree findings, lucite flowers and an old light bulb.
