Art in the Pages is a first-time public art sculpture initiative taking place throughout Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. The project consists of large scale open book statues that have been transformed into vibrant works of art by local artists. These individually decorated sculptures are on display at every public library branch throughout Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax, plus other selected public locations and businesses in the community.
As a local artist working out of Fairfax County, I was given the opportunity to design one of the Art in the Pages mini-statuettes. On September 20, 2008, a reception at which attendees had the opportunity to view and bid on these artistically decorated 5” high miniature statuettes at a silent auction. The silent auction proceeds benefited Fairfax County Public Library programs and services, such as live online Homework Help, the popular Summer Reading Program, the Friends Scholarship Fund and more funded by the Fairfax Library Foundation.
